We live in a world of cities in an increasingly urban planet. Cities are the new engines of the global economy with the potential to be the main actors leading the fight against climate change, inequality, and poverty. The past was once organised by periods of empires and nation-states, but as we now look to the future, we see a world shaped by Supercities.

Our cities, which often have limited economic resources and political power, have to address formidable challenges. Thus, we have chosen to refer to this generation of cities - the leadership, creativity, and shared vision of which can help develop initiatives and projects of significant impact - as Supercities. The Supercity has succeeded in understanding its own nature and the components of excellence needed as a basis to define its own urban profile, activate projects, and stimulate networks of cooperation.
